Through the years my husband and I have taken some great trips together. It has been my goal since I was a young girl to visit all fifty states in this great country of ours. I want a chance to see great portions of the state when I visit it. I do not feel it counts just to stick your foot across the state line and say you have been there. Through the years we have been to most of the western states and several of the eastern states and a few in between. I still have twenty states that I would like to visit. It seems that there are always different things that come up that use up vacation time so it is not always easy to go to different destinations if you do not have relatives to visit or a special event going on.

Two of the states that I have yet to visit are the two largest in the nation Alaska and Texas. My husband and I are going to spend a month in Alaska for our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. The other day my boss told me that I needed to be part of a team that was doing a presentation in Texas. I am an administrative assistant and usually make arrangements for trips but do not go on them. He explained that this was one of the biggest accounts our firm had ever attempted to get and he wanted to make sure that everything went well. I was asked to make all the arrangements for the trip and to book a place for myself as well.

The meeting was to be held in Austin. I knew that Texas was huge, but I did not know a great deal about the locations of the major cities within the state. I called one of the other assistants and asked if she could recommend motels in Austin for the team to stay. She had not booked any trips in this location either but she has a friend who is a travel agent so she gave me her number to contact. The travel agent had lists of motels in Austin. She said that there were several that had special accommodations for businessmen such as internet access as well as meeting rooms. One of the motels in Austin was close to the corporation that we were meeting with. Out of all the motels in Austin this one seemed like the best deal. They had a free shuttle service from the airport and we would have access to a meeting room free if we booked three or more double rooms.

The business meetings went very well. Out of all the motels in Austin I could not believe that I booked the one I did. We could walk the two blocks to the company we were dealing with and within six blocks there was every restaurant, bar and club that we could have wanted. I did not leave the six block radius except to go to the airport so I have decided I cannot cross Texas off my list yet.
